Top Off a Great Wedding Ceremony
With a Trouble-Free Honeymoon

As summer arrives, wedding bells start ringing. Newlyweds are gleaming while their proud and often exhausted parents smile and nod in approval at all the work that has gone into planning and orchestrating every last detail of this very special day.

Now comes time for the honeymoon, a chance for the lovebirds to fly off to that special getaway where they can be alone for a while and let the beautiful reality of their newly taken vows sink in.
However, keep in mind that planning a honeymoon requires thorough research and just as much care and attention as planning the wedding.

There are many details to consider. For example, not all hotel rooms come with double beds, says Geri Bain, travel editor of Modern Bride magazine. Even if you are familiar with the hotel and getaway destination of choice, it might benefit you to look into travel packages, which often can offer more luxury for less money.

Here are eight of the most common mistakes people make when planning their honeymoon.

1. Forgetting to book a double bed You may laugh, but it's important when reserving hotels, especially abroad, and crucial if you are going on a cruise. Most ships only have a limited number of cabins with double beds and they must be specifically reserved.

2. Making your reservations for an early flight the morning after your wedding If you're planning an evening reception, you can be sure you're not going to bed early on your wedding night. Imagine sleeping through your 6 a.m. wake-up call. A later flight may save you from walking bleary-eyed through the airport.

3. Skimping on your accommodations Maybe on other trips, but not a honeymoon. Even if you think you won't spend much time in your room, you'll be sorry if your accommodations are not special. Probably the most common honeymoon lament heard is, "I wish we'd spent just a little more and stayed in a deluxe room."

4. Not setting a honeymoon budget Before you go, agree about what you'll splurge on and where you'll save to avoid any possible money hassles en route.

5. Letting one person do all the planning After all, this honeymoon is for both of you. The one who does all the work will feel guilty if things don't go perfectly and the other probably will end up dissatisfied.

6. Ignoring cost-saving travel packages Talk to your travel agent. Many packages will allow you to have all the frills you want and save you money.

7. Keeping mum about being honeymooners Everyone loves a honeymoon couple. Don't be bashful especially with hotels, cruise lines and restaurants. Tell them when you make your reservations, and you're likely to enjoy special treatment i.e. complimentary champagne in flight, a gift basket in your room.

8. Thinking you have to spend every minute together If you want to shop for an afternoon, but your spouse prefers to laze on the beach, no problem. You'll both be happier if you plan one or two separate activities on your honeymoon think of how much fun you'll have sharing your experiences with each other.

The honeymoon will be as memorable as the wedding, so make the memory a pleasant one. A little research will save you a lot of hassle.
